Just in time for the weekend. Our good mate Jarrod Day was out fishing Bass Strait yesterday just outside the Rip and had a great session on small Kingfish.
Most fish were in the 55cm to 60cm bracket although a few bust-offs mean there are likely a few bigger models about.
Jigging natural coloured jigs did the trick with the Yakamito Slither doing the damage. If you are unsure about rigging jigs for Kings we can help with that as most quality jigs come unrigged so keen anglers can customise the rigging to match their tackle and the size of the fish being caught.
Remember when jigging kings mix up your retrieves until you find what's working on the day. Also make sure that jig gets all the way to the bottom before starting the retrieve, if the fish are holding on the bottom just jig up through the bottom third of the water column and then freespool the jig back down and start again.
Jarrod also tells us that Squid strips worked as well.
Most of the fish were holding close to reef in 40m but with seals working them there were also small schools roaming about.
With numbers of fish outside like this it's also worth checking the rip itself.
Thanks for the update Jarrod, great work.
